The person who killed an engineering professor on a Tokyo campus is believed to have fled the scene using nearby stairs because police found blood on them, investigative sources said Thursday.

Police are gathering information from students and other possible witnesses at Chuo University's Korakuen campus in Bunkyo Ward for clues about a man seen by the student who found the victim Wednesday morning, the sources said.

Hajime Takakubo, 45, a member of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, was found in a fourth-floor lavatory, bleeding with more than 10 stab wounds to his chest, back and hands. A campus security guard called for an ambulance, but Takakubo was later confirmed dead at a hospital.
