Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. said Thursday its group net profit increased 7.2 percent to 335.81 billion yen in business 2006 on good sales of its medicines in Japan, Europe and the United States.

In a group earnings report for the 12-month period to March 31, the drugmaker said its pretax profit jumped 20.5 percent to 585.02 billion yen on a 7.7 percent sales leap to 1.31 trillion yen.

The company attributed the sales jump to brisk sales of drugs for treatment of diabetes, hypertension and ulcers.
