A fishing boat carrying two people capsized in the Seto Inland Sea on Monday afternoon after colliding with a freighter, leaving a woman who was aboard the boat missing, the Japan Coast Guard said.

The 4.3-ton Kanemitsu Maru collided with the 6,395-ton Panamanian-registered freighter Mighty Dandy around 3:40 p.m. south of Takami Island, which is part of the town of Tadotsu, Kagawa Prefecture.

The Kanemitsu Maru was split in two and its skipper, Takeo Minato, 78, of Mitoyo, and his, daughter Sayuri, 45, were thrown into the sea by the collision.

The man was rescued without injuries by a Hiroshima-based coast guard vessel that happened to be in the area, but his daughter was not found.
