BEIJING – Japan and China began senior working-level talks Sunday, with Tokyo set to propose that foreign ministerial talks resume after being halted by the row over Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi’s visits to Yasukuni Shrine.
Vice Foreign Minister Shotaro Yachi said he will propose to Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo that the foreign ministers meet on the sidelines of a meeting of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue in Qatar later this month.
