Oracle Corp. announced Thursday it will market a new software package worldwide by the end of March that will allow corporate users to easily search their company databases.
Users of Oracle Secure Enterprise Search 10g, a search engine for business databases, will use keywords to generate search results from a range of enterprise data sources, including e-mails and documents.
To ensure security, the software permits users to see only search results in parts of a database to which an employee has authorized access.
"Google is innovative in public search, . . . Oracle is innovative in private search," said Oracle CEO Larry Ellison at a news conference, referring to the new software as a corporate database version of Google's popular Internet search engine.
The software, whose price has yet to be determined, will be available for business users by the end of March.
