The Self-Defense Forces and cities in Mie, Tokushima and Kochi prefectures conducted drills Saturday in anticipation of a major earthquake in western Japan.
The drills were based on the assumption that a magnitude 8.6 earthquake had caused damage from the Kii Peninsula to waters off Shikoku, triggering a tsunami.
