A 41-year-old Tokyo man died Saturday after the glider he was flying crashed into a parking lot in Noda, Chiba Prefecture, police said.

The accident occurred at around noon, police said, adding no one on the ground was injured. Investigators later identified the man as company employee Kenji Mizuno of Suginami Ward and said he had died of traumatic shock.

The glider took off at around 10:30 a.m. from an airfield along the banks of the Edogawa River about 1 km northwest of the crash site. Airfield staff said the wind was not especially strong around that time.

The parking lot where the glider crashed is located in an area dotted with homes and fields, according to police.
