BEIJING (Kyodo) Sony Corp. said Monday it has set up a design center in Shanghai to develop electronic and electrical products better able to meet the tastes of Chinese consumers.

Sony's fifth design center after those in Tokyo, Los Angeles, London and Singapore has a staff of three designers: two Japanese and one Chinese.

Company officials said the staff will increase to 10 with the hiring of more Chinese designers within a year.

The new Creative Center will design a wide variety of products including television sets, personal computers and digital cameras, Sony said.
