Two Ground Self-Defense Force members were injured Saturday when the helicopter they were in made an emergency landing in a field in Ninohe, Iwate Prefecture, police said.

The chopper landed around 2:40 p.m. while it was heading from the GSDF base in Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture, for a base in Sendai for a training program there, according to the GSDF.

Police said two of the three crew members aboard suffered minor injuries.

The helicopter ended up on its side in the field and its rotor and tail were damaged, according to a witness.

The police believe there was engine trouble and are investigating the incident.
