A Chinese reforestation project financed by Toyota Motor Corp. will be extended for three years under an agreement signed in Beijing on Friday, Toyota said.

The project, which was initiated as a three-year project in April 2001, involves the China-Japan Scientific Technology and Economic Exchange Association of the Chinese Academy of Science, the Hebei Province Forestry Bureau, and the nonprofit organization Green Earth Center, Toyota said.

The project is designed to limit desertification in China with tree-planting in the Fengning Man Autonomous County, Hebei Province.

Toyota said it provided funds for the project as part of its social-contribution program.
