All 14 university students stranded in a blizzard for 49 hours were plucked by helicopter Monday from a mountain on the border between Fukui and Ishikawa prefectures.

A helicopter operated by the Fukui Prefectural Government rescued the first student from Mount Ocho around 11:30 a.m. and took him to a heliport at a nearby ski area. The student, 20-year-old Minoru Iida, was taken to a hospital, suffering from frostbite to his left leg.

An Air Self-Defense Forces helicopter rescued two other students, Oki Hayashi, 20, and Makoto Yoshida, 19. They were both taken to a hospital.
