Five days of working-level talks between Japan and Mexico over a bilateral free-trade agreement ended Friday with virtually no progress made, Japanese officials said.
But the two countries agreed to hold another working-level meeting, probably sometime in the final week of February, the officials said.
The schedule and venue of the meeting has yet to be decided.
During vice ministerial-level talks last week, Japan and Mexico failed to bridge differences over five key farm products -- orange juice, oranges, pork, chicken and beef.
Although the talks were said to be productive, the negotiators failed to even set a date for the next round.
Earlier this month, Mexican Economy Secretary Fernando Canales threatened to abandon the negotiations if a deal is not reached by the end of March.
But Tokyo has dismissed this warning, saying Mexico has no real intention of acting on its threat.
