When he was a young Soviet diplomat assigned to Tokyo in the late 1960s, Alexander Panov never imagined top officials of the United States and Russia, longtime Cold War adversaries, would one day be staging a joint photo show.

But some 40 years later, Panov, now Russia's ambassador to Japan, will exhibit photos with his U.S. counterpart, Howard Baker, in Tokyo and Osaka, showcasing works critics say are of professional quality.

This is the first time the heads of the two diplomatic missions will hold a joint photo exhibition.
