NAGANO – Former Nagano Gov. Yasuo Tanaka, ousted from office by the prefectural assembly a month ago, and five challengers filed Thursday to run in the Sept. 1 gubernatorial election.
The popular Tanaka, 46, will attempt to reclaim the post he lost during a standoff with the prefectural assembly over his controversial “no more dams” policy.
