Police served a suspect with a fresh arrest warrant Wednesday for allegedly raping a young woman in suburban Tokyo and stealing her belongings in December, after he confessed to sexually assaulting several other women.
Ryuichi Aoyama, 32, of Higashiyamato, has been indicted on theft and other charges. He was served the fresh warrant in connection with the Dec. 4 case, in which he allegedly broke into the house of a 20-year-old woman in Higashimurayama, threatened her with a knife and raped her.
Aoyama then made away with about 22,000 yen in cash and the woman's cellular phone, police said.
"I committed many other (rapes)," police quoted him as saying in connection with around 20 similar rapes committed in Kodaira, Higashimurayama and other suburbs of Tokyo between October and January.
