An earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 5.4 jolted southwestern Japan on Wednesday morning, the Meteorological Agency said.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the 6:04 a.m. quake. No tsunami warning was issued.
The quake registered 3 on the Japanese intensity scale to 7 in Naze, Kagoshima Prefecture, and 2 in Kikaijima Island and Amami-Oshima Island in the prefecture.
The focus of the quake was about 110 km below the sea off Amami-Oshima Island, the agency said.
