Kanagawa Prefectural Police arrested a 44-year-old sergeant Thursday on suspicion of accepting a 40,000 yen bribe from a gangster in exchange for investigative information, police said.

Also arrested were the gangster, Hiroshi Uchida, 31, for allegedly bribing Sergeant Shinichi Sasaki as well as Eiji Okamura, 35, who identified himself as a scaffolding builder, on suspicion of acting as a go-between.

The three suspects admitted to the charges, and Sasaki apologized for his actions, according to police sources.

Investigators also raided the Firearms Control Division of the Kanagawa police headquarters, where Sasaki was in charge of gun-smuggling probes.
