A U.S. Navy serviceman stationed at Yokosuka was arrested Saturday on suspicion of fleeing the scene of a traffic accident in which three people were injured, police officials said.
Seaman Apprentice Curiton Markevious, 20, was quoted by police as saying he fled the scene because he was afraid.
Police said he is suspected of crashing into the back of a taxi around 10:45 p.m. Friday in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture. The 63-year-old taxi driver and a 56-year-old female passenger were slightly injured while a 29-year-old man in the car in front of the taxi also sustained minor injuries.
