The Tokyo stock market has had an overall positive tone recently, bolstered by a rebound on Wall Street.

The 225-issue Nikkei average climbed past the 14,000 level Jan. 22 for the first time in almost a month. It closed the month at 13,843.55 on Wednesday, compared with the Jan. 11 closing of 13,201.07, its lowest level since Oct. 15, 1998.

The New York Stock Exchange reacted positively to U.S. interest-rate cuts made early last month.
