Police arrested a man on Sunday for stabbing his wife to death at their home over a separation dispute, police said.
Toru Kawamoto, 37, a truck driver, of Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture, was held on suspicion of murder.
According to police, Kawamoto is suspected of stabbing his wife, Shinano, 29, a nurse, in the back several times with a kitchen knife in their bedroom shortly after midnight Saturday.
Kawamoto phoned local police to say that he had killed his wife. He reportedly told police that he had stabbed the wife in a fit of anger when she proposed divorce. He was reportedly drunk at the time and allegedly often used violence against his wife.
