* Aug. 20, 1999 -- BNFL discovers MOX data falsification related to fuel being produced for Takahama No. 3 reactor.

* Sept. 10 -- BNFL reports falsification to Nuclear Installations Inspectorate.

* Sept. 11 -- BNFL notifies Kepco's MOX contractor, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., by fax about the falsification. Mitsubishi receives notice Sept. 13 Japan time and notifies Kepco.

* Sept. 14 -- Kepco notifies MITI and Fukui Prefecture about the falsification.

* Sept. 16 -- Kepco begins investigation into data falsification reports for Takahama No. 3 fuel.

* Sept. 20 -- MITI officials meet with NII in Britain. Japanese Embassy asks NII to confirm further falsification did not occur.

* Sept. 21 -- NII replies to Japanese Embassy, saying it will take several weeks to check data for Takahama No. 4 fuel, which is in transit to Japan. That same day, Kepco says its own investigation found no falsification for Takahama No. 4 fuel.

* Sept. 28 -- MITI and Kepco tell Fukui Prefectural Assembly that Takahama No. 4 fuel is safe.

* Oct. 1 -- Takahama No. 4 fuel arrives in Fukui Prefecture.

* Oct. 20 -- Two antinuclear groups, Green Action and Mihama no Kai, submit independent analysis of MOX data to Kepco, Fukui Prefectural Assembly and Ministry of International Trade and Industry charging Takahama No. 4 fuel has been falsified.

* Nov. 1 -- Kepco releases final report on BNFL MOX data falsification that states no falsification of No. 4 fuel occurred.

* Nov. 8 -- NII informs the Japanese Embassy in London of its concerns. Letter is kept secret until Dec. 15.

* Nov. 10 -- MITI informs Green Action and Mihama no Kai that Kepco's report is adequate.

* Nov. 19 -- MITI and Kepco tell Fukui Prefecture that fuel for No. 4 is safe.

* Dec. 8 -- In Britain, an NII report released to local politicians says data on one lot of No. 4 pellets is unusual.

* Dec. 9 -- In Japan, MITI asks Kepco to check the suspicious lot.

* Dec. 10 -- In an Upper House committee, Sumiko Shimizu, a member of the Social Democratic Party, asks MITI about Takahama No. 4 fuel data falsification.

* Dec. 11 -- Kepco reports to MITI that data for the lot in question was not falsified. MITI orders Kepco to send inspectors to Britain for further investigation.

* Dec. 12 -- Kepco informs Fukui Prefecture of report to MITI, sends delegation to Britain.

* Dec. 15 -- NII letter of Nov. 8 is publicly revealed. BNFL admits that one lot of MOX fuel has falsified data.

* Dec. 16 -- Kepco says it will not use fuel for Takahama No. 4.

* Feb. 8, 2000 -- British delegation, including NII head, visits Japan, apologizes to MITI and Kepco.

* Feb. 18 -- BNFL president visits Kepco and apologizes.

* Feb. 28 -- BNFL president resigns.

* Mar. 1 -- Kepco releases report saying it failed to investigate properly.
