The rainy season has officially ended in Okinawa Prefecture, the Meteorological Agency declared Friday, while on the same day issuing a warning for heavy downpours in wide areas stretching from western to eastern Japan through this morning.

The agency said the seasonal rain front is hovering over the area south of Honshu, central Kyushu and the East China Sea, and a low pressure system is moving east-northeast over the East China Sea.

Wet, warm air from the south is making the front active, it said.
