The Internet ate up pictures of the crazy costumes in Shibuya last year, but Tokyoites aren't the only ones enjoying Halloween in Japan.

While the tentacles of terror haven't completely made their way into the countryside, Osakans have definitely welcomed the holiday and you can expect celebrations there to be a big hit on the weekend.

The southern parts of the city, Shinsaibashi and Namba, should be among the better spots for haunting. This country's cosplay (dressing up as your favorite manga or anime character) is among the best in the world and it isn't too much more work to turn Sailor Moon into Zombie Sailor Moon. Or how about dressing up as Zombie Glico Man and running over to Ebisu Bridge to take pictures in front of Osaka's iconic Glico Man sign?

A short walk away from the bridge is Amerika Mura, where a lot of ghouls are expected to gather. The area is already known for its youth fashion, so expect costumed kids to parade down the streets as if they were on some kind of macabre runway. Mistu Park, also known as Triangle Park, was a Halloween hot spot last year and this year should be no different.

Like other big cities, though, Halloween will mostly be celebrated in nightclubs and at house parties. One such event is the Naniwa Halloween party and it will be held at Osaka City Central Public Hall on Oct. 31. Each floor will feature various kinds of events such as concerts and costume parties, but the main draw is comedy. Yoshimoto Shinkigeki, a popular group of 20 comedians, will be performing a special Halloween show at the Naniwa party.

If scares are more your thing instead of laughs, Universal Studios Japan will be holding its Halloween Horror Night with nine terror-filled attractions featuring monsters such as Freddy Krueger, Sadako and Chucky from "Child's Play." Children aren't allowed to take part, but the kids will be able to do trick-or-treating at USJ in the daytime.

Whether it's a ouija board session in Kyoto, cosplay in Kobe or being chased by the kid from "Ju-On" at USJ in Osaka, the Kansai region should see some seriously spooky spectacles during Halloween this year.
