While avocado-and-cheese Doritos and Jagarico were on konbini shelves last year, this year’s unlikely savory flavor combination seems to be cheese and mentaiko, which is spicy cod roe.

Calbee has already released limited-edition potato chips (¥124) and Jagabee potato sticks (¥130) flavored with cheese and spicy fish eggs, but for something a bit more sophisticated, Kameda Seika, after doing a survey with users on recipe website Cookpad, has released a mentai-cheese version of its kaki no tane rice crisps (¥108) in partnership with the site.
