Hinokizaka, the Michelin- rated Japanese restaurant at The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo, will host a wine-pairing dinner featuring wines from the Tomi no Oka Winery on Oct. 15.
A five-course authentic Japanese kaiseki dinner, featuring matsutake mushrooms and other seasonal ingredients, will be served with pairings from the winery in Yamanashi Prefecture.
Among seven wines offered are Tomi Red 1997, which won the top prize at an international wine competition in Bordeaux, France, and three vintages of Tomi Reserve Special, which were released in June in celebration of the winery’s 100th anniversary.
The winery’s managing director, Eiichi Okawa, will be on hand to discuss the workings of the business, its history and why each wine was selected for each course.
The dinner costs ¥20,000 per person. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. and dinner will start at 7 p.m.

A taste of Austria’s heritage
With Austria and Japan celebrating their 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, the Park Hyatt Tokyo has invited award-winning Austrian chef Christian Petz to present the “Austrian Heritage” culinary promotion between Sept. 30 and Oct. 9.
Petz, one of the most celebrated chefs in Austria, was executive chef at the famous restaurant Coburg in Vienna and was named “Austria’s Chef of the Year” in 2002.
The hotel’s 41st-floor Girandole restaurant will offer two dinner courses (¥12,000 and ¥16,000) and a la carte menus. Petz’s authentic Austrian creations, served in a modern style, will be paired with Austrian wines that are difficult to find in Japan, including those from long-established wineries Esterhazy and Pichler.
The menus are available from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. (last orders 10 p.m.).
