"Although Japan gives the impression of being a rich country, there is still need out there. Everything cannot be covered. The International Ladies Benevolent Society tries to fill the cracks that get overlooked. ILBS still means a great deal to a lot of people and institutions. I am proud to be part of this worthwhile group, all volunteers, which has been going for a long time, and which is honored by the patronage of the Imperial family. I have a lot of trust in ILBS."

Equally, and with reason, ILBS has a lot of trust in Beverly Nakamura. For a second consecutive year, she holds the position of ILBS president. Quiet and competent, she is a seasoned leader of women's organizations in Japan, having begun in 1969 when she was a founding member of the Association of Foreign Wives of Japanese. She has the self-discipline to organize her time, and these years later still maintains her high energy level.

Her first interest in Japan dates from her early years when she was a child in Indiana. She cannot account for the attraction she felt for the country then, and why it continued. At DePauw University, Beverly opted for the Junior Year Abroad Program, and came in 1966 to Waseda University's International Division.
