It's my first Halloween in Japan. I'm living in the countryside, so there'll be no celebrating there. I'll find a different way to celebrate. I might go to an "izakaya."

Halloween's not popular in Australia. There was no trick or treating when I was a kid. This year will be like any other year, going to work and then probably dinner with friends.

Masato Hirano, 42

Halloween's only become popular in Japan recently. My son will have a party at his school. They'll wear costumes, play some games and get candy from the teachers.

Sibylle Grotz (German)

I don't really like Halloween. I won't be doing anything special. It's interesting for children, but I prefer German festivals. They're more exciting.

Halloween's mainly for kids, but it's also for the young at heart. I'll be dressing up as a dead hockey player. I enjoy giving out candy and scaring all the kids.

Patricia Furuya

I work in a restaurant, so I'll give candy to all the children who come in that day. It's a new way of celebrating things in Japan, so it's important to make it fun for children.
