If Joseph Lam were to take a vocational aptitude test, the results would no doubt point to a career in either politics or tele-evangelism.

He is blessed with a candidate's ability to shake your hand and give you the feeling he came halfway around the world just to see you. He is apt at prefacing conversation with "As a Christian, I believe" and finishing it with talk of "cash-aggressive" development plans. He will talk about his inspiration, Mother Teresa, and has pictures of them together. And just when you begin to wonder if he's probing you for your religious affiliation, he remarks that anyone, "even Buddhists," should band together to help needy children.

Fortunately for the World Children's Fund, which Lam founded in 1994, his talent for conveying sincerity is devoted to charity.
