Proxy-shopping companies and subscription services in Japan have had a massive wrench thrown into the works since Japan Post stopped accepting small parcels to the U.S. last month following changes to shipping tax exemptions.

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump suspended de minimis exemptions on Aug. 29 for packages with a declared value of less than $800, which had allowed them to be sent duty-free and with minimal paperwork.

This caused Japan Post to stop accepting packages bound for the U.S. with a declared value of more than $100 or that contain “commercial” items.
