A Shizuoka Prefecture couple indicted earlier this year for hiding the body of a baby in the trunk of their car were served fresh warrants on Friday for allegedly abandoning another baby in Kanagawa Prefecture last year, police said.
The man, 21, and his girlfriend, 20, both of Numazu, have admitted to the allegations, saying they could not tell their parents that she was pregnant because they were not married.
The abandoned baby boy was taken into protective custody after people who heard him crying alerted police, and he now lives with foster parents, investigators said.
According to police, the woman gave birth to the baby in a Numazu hotel in early March 2002, when they were both 19. The couple then allegedly wrapped him in a towel and left him in a parking lot.
In February this year, the couple were arrested and indicted for leaving the body of a baby she gave birth to in the trunk of a car parked in an empty lot in Numazu.
