Embalming tiger shrimp in tempura at Shintaro
The recipe for tempura is widely credited to Portugese and Spanish missionaries who lived in western Japan during the late 16th century. In "Japanese Cooking: A Simple Art," author and chef Shizuo Tsuji, writes that, as this new dish caught on in Japan, it was slowly adapted for local tastes, eventually being paired with a delicately seasoned dipping sauce with grated daikon mixed into it.

Tigers' Fujinami may be ready to roar
Shintaro Fujinami was included on Samurai Japan's roster for next week's games against Europe probably because the Hanshin Tigers can give the ball to Randy Messenger, coming off an excellent 2014, or stalwart Atsushi Nomi on opening day. Fujinami is probably the biggest name on the Japan pitching staff, a group made up of good players, though none who might be considered the ace of his club's staff, or in line for the opening day start.

So, true to form, next month at the ACM Theater in Art Tower Mito he is staging a double bill comprising Shakespeare's comedy "Twelfth Night" (or "What You Will"), which was written around 1601-02, and an adaptation of "I, Malvolio," by the contemporary English playwright, director and actor Tim Crouch.
