'Self/Less': Losing oneself in the narrative
The age of excessive high-tech is a good time to be filthy rich, especially if you happen to be an entitled scoundrel whose level of wealth-fueled egomania makes Scrooge look like a benevolent fuddy-duddy. 'Gods of Egypt': What an ungodly mess
In the latest issue of Kinema Junpo, Japan's most venerable film magazine, you can read a lengthy tribute to Gaga, the dogged independent movie distributor that's marking its 30th anniversary this year. The occasion is certainly worth commemorating: This is the company that released "Seven," "Talk to Her," "The Artist" and "12 Years a Slave" in Japan, not to mention all of Hirokazu Koreeda's recent films. In a movie market strewn with casualties, it's a genuine survivor.

Son of a Gun: 'Gritty prison realism replaced with impossibly glamorous molls and heavy-firepower heists'
'Son of a Gun" begins in a prison in Perth, Australia, with 19-year-old JR (Brenton Thwaites) facing his first incarceration for a minor crime. He realizes, from the sight of a terrorized and sodomized cellmate, that things are going to get ugly pretty quickly. He cuts his pretty-boy hair and keeps his eyes down, but it soon becomes clear that he's next in line to become some tattooed ogre's punk.
