As I flipped the pages of the newspaper during the Group of Eight summit, my eyes caught words expressing the whole world's alarm over environmental problems. I remember when I first heard the term "global warming" -- more than 10 years ago. I was in elementary school and there was a blank to fill in a vocabulary test. Yet I never had to pay attention to the word until circa 2008. Skyrocketing oil and food prices are killing us in exchange for our killing nature. Also, climate worries including natural disasters directly threaten human lives.
Now is the time to realize that environmental health is tied to our own health. Human beings owe Mother Nature much for their development and stability. It's good that we are finally taking responsibility for our debt. I hope the trend of keeping Earth clean and green lasts forever. Beyond the U.S. expecting political change and Zimbabwe needing social change, the world is witnessing the moment of environmental change.
