Tokyo police have arrested a 45-year-old man from the city of Hakodate, Hokkaido, on suspicion of attempting to defraud a woman in her 30s, whom he had promised to marry, by claiming he had been kidnapped to extort money.
The suspect, Yuichi Nishimura, allegedly enticed the victim with promises of marriage while concealing the fact that he was already married.
Nishimura, who has confessed to the charges, deceived the woman into giving him several million yen over two years, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. Authorities are investigating the case further, as additional victims have surfaced, suggesting Nishimura may have funded his life through these scams.
