The Children and Families Agency is considering providing temporary shelters to young people who run away from home to escape abuse and other trauma, sources said.
By offering the shelters, the agency aims to prevent such runaways from getting involved in crime in places like the "Toyoko" area in Tokyo's Kabukicho entertainment district, the sources said.
The agency will start the runaway shelter project as soon as it secures enough funding.
