An elderly Japanese man feared to have been abducted by North Korea has been found in Japan, Miyazaki Prefectural Police said Wednesday.

For privacy reasons, the man’s identity and how he was found were not disclosed.

The man went missing in 1974. He was discovered in November last year and his identity was confirmed with his family and others, the police said.

The finding reduced the number of missing Japanese citizens who may have been abducted by North Korea to 881.
