The number of passengers boarding international flights at Narita airport is expected to grow 6.9 percent from the previous year to 998,000 during the Bon holiday period from Aug. 10 to 19, the airport’s operator said Friday.

The average number of passengers per day is expected to rewrite its all-time high for the third consecutive year, with flights to Seoul likely to get a boost from low-cost carriers, Narita International Airport Corp. said.

Demand is robust for flights to resorts such as Kona on Hawaii, which is serviced directly by Japan Airlines, it said.

Departures during the 10-day period, which includes the Bon holidays from Aug. 13 to 15, are expected to peak on Aug. 11. Return flights are likely to peak on Aug. 19.
