A man jumped onto bullet-train tracks and was fatally hit in Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture, police said.

The Hayabusa No. 35 on the Tohoku Shinkansen Line struck the man as it entered Hachinohe Station at around 11:10 p.m. Sunday, East Japan Railway Co. said.

The man, who was not identified, jumped from one of the station's platforms shortly before the train arrived, JR East said.

About 200 passengers were aboard the train, but the accident had little impact on the operational schedule because the Hayabusa No. 35 was Sunday's last train from Tokyo to Shin-Aomori Station, the railway said.
