A Nagoya-based nonprofit organization has started a free translation service to support elderly Chinese residents having trouble with Japan's nursing care insurance system because of the language barrier and lack of knowledge.

Wang Rong, 51, who heads Tokai Daily Life Support Center for Foreigners, hopes the service, which also trains translators, will help create a society where non-Japanese residents are given the same opportunities as Japanese citizens.

By law, all foreign nationals who legally stay in Japan for more than three months and have their addresses registered are eligible for nursing care services.
