About 30 million people have visited a high-end department store in Japan's tallest commercial building in the year since it opened.

Kintetsu Department Store's flagship outlet in the 300-meter Abeno Harukas skyscraper in Osaka recorded an average of about 86,000 customers a day from its opening on June 13, 2013, till the end of May this year, company officials said.

It is an increase of 90 percent on the number of customers the store attracted when it was in the building that previously occupied the site, the officials said.

Sales rose 40 percent over the period. Analysts described the figures as disappointing, given that the rise lagged the increase in visitors.

The officials said visitors were arriving in greater numbers, especially from neighboring prefectures, and that there were more young people visiting than before.
