Yamato Holdings Co. plans to begin a same-day parcel delivery service linking Tokyo and two other major cities by 2016, company officials said Monday.

Yamato plans to apply the current fees for multiple-day deliveries to the one-day service by introducing a faster sorting system at new facilities to be set up on the outskirts of Tokyo and in Osaka and Nagoya, the officials said.

Yamato delivers small parcels from Tokyo to Osaka for ¥840. Although same-day deliveries linking the three cities are already offered, their fees are much more expensive, the officials said.

Yamato will first set up an eight-story facility in Aikawa, Kanagawa Prefecture, with the two others to be completed by 2016 in Aichi Prefecture, including Nagoya, and Osaka Prefecture.
