Toyota Motor Corp. said Tuesday it will launch the Prius in Brazil in late October, making it the company's first hybrid to go on sale there.
The car, to be shipped from Japan to Brazil, will also be able to run on ethanol fuel to meet local needs, Toyota said.
The sales volume will likely be modest as Brazil's high vehicle tax in comparison with levies in Japan and the United States is expected to boost the car's price.
