The 15-year prison term for the killer of a 5-year-old girl in Chiba Prefecture is now final after the Supreme Court rejected his appeal.

Ryo Katsuki, 25, abducted nursery school pupil Yukimaro Narita on a street in Togane, Chiba Prefecture, in September 2008 and drowned her in a bathtub at his home before abandoning her body. The focal point of the case was whether Katsuki, who has a mental disability, would be able to understand the court proceedings enough to be held criminally liable, and to what extent.
