A man sprayed gasoline in a bar and set it on fire early Saturday in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, killing a woman and injuring himself and three others as they tried to escape, police said.

The fatality, Aimi Nemoto, 27, was the manager of the Ammy bar and an acquaintance of the suspect, Takeshi Suzuki, reportedly one of her frequent customers.

Suzuki, 35, turned himself in to the police in the afternoon after he also sustained burns in the fire, the police said.

Investigators said Suzuki, who was being treated at a hospital, had admitted his guilt. Police were set to arrest him on suspicion of arson and murder.

Nemoto's mother, Eriko, 49, sustained burns while trying to flee. The other two victims were customers.
