A ceremony was held Friday to mark the completion of Tokyo Sky Tree, presently the world's tallest free-standing tower, which will be opened to the public on May 22.
About 70 people, including construction workers and Michiaki Suzuki, president of Tobu Tower Sky Tree Co., which operates the 634-meter tower, attended the ceremony two days after the construction work that started in July 2008 finished.
"I'm full of emotions. I will prepare for the opening of the tower and I would like to promote it as Tokyo's new attraction to the world," Suzuki said.
The operator will start accepting reservations for tickets to the tower's observation deck, which is 350 meters high, on March 22 at the tower's website or Tobu Travel Co. outlets, it said. Tickets will only be available by advance reservations until July 10, it said.
