Police said the suspect in a fatal shooting this week was found dead Thursday morning in a minivan in Kujukuri, Chiba Prefecture, after apparently shooting himself in the head.

Chong Yong Bom, 65, was found bleeding from the face in the minivan he was believed to have used to flee the Denny's restaurant in the adjacent city of Togane after gunning down Yoshiaki Furukawa, 62, on Monday morning.

The police found the suspect's corpse along with what appeared to be a gun after receiving a call from a passerby about a "person lying in a suspicious car."

According to the police, Furukawa was shot and killed immediately after he and Chong started talking at the same table in the restaurant.

Investigative sources said the two were acquainted and had links to organized crime syndicates. They are believed to have had a dispute over money.
