A group of eight skiers who performed a dragon dance while sliding down a mountain slope won a costume contest for skiers and snowboarders at a resort on Mount Daisen in Tottori Prefecture on Sunday.

While descending, the group led by Masahiro Kadoki, 43, from Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture, held aloft a long green sheet representing the dragon's body. At the same time, Kadoki, at the front of the line, held up a dragon's head made of cardboard.

The group won the top prize of ¥100,000 in cash.

"This is an achievement we won by cooperating with friends and family members," a happy Kadoki said.

Nine teams comprised of around 50 winter sports enthusiasts participated in the contest on the 300-meter slope. Their hand-made costumes included ones modeled on popular characters from nursery tales and TV.
