NATORI, Miyagi Pref. (Kyodo) Thirty-seven children held a graduation ceremony Thursday at an elementary school in the disaster-hit coastal town of Natori, Miyagi Prefecture.

Many local residents are still being sheltered at Tatekoshi Elementary School’s gymnasium. None of the graduates was killed or went missing in the March 11 quake and tsunami.

“It’s quite tough, but we’d like to brace ourselves in a positive way,” said Shion Sawai, 12, one of the graduates.

“Please support each other,” school Principal Morio Takahashi told the children in a speech.
