The Liberal Democratic Party plans to ask Tokyo Gov. Shintaro Ishihara to seek re-election in April, a senior lawmaker suggested Tuesday.

"As secretary general of the LDP, I hope he will run," Nobuteru Ishihara, who is also the oldest son of the outspoken governor, said at a news conference.

"Amid the chaotic political situation, it is important to have a politician like him who comes out with sound arguments," the younger Ishihara said.

But the governor didn't mention whether he would seek a fourth term when he delivered a policy speech Tuesday to the metropolitan assembly. But he did say politicians at the national level are failing to outline a future for Japan.
