NEW YORK (Kyodo) Japan's U.N. delegation has failed to take a clear stance on a draft U.N. Security Council resolution on nuclear disarmament and nonproliferation in the absence of instructions from the Democratic Party of Japan, which is taking power this week, U.N. diplomatic sources said.

The United States is eager to adopt the resolution during the Sept. 24 special session of the Security Council.

Japan, one of the 10 rotating Security Council members without a veto, has failed to launch full-fledged talks with other members of the council on the detailed wording of the resolution, the sources said Monday.
